Questions around compliance, billing, resident communication, and long-term maintenance are now commonplace.

A Small Business Owner's Perspective: Riding the Storm After the UK Budget

For the past four weeks, life has been a whirlwind of calculations, revisions, and difficult decisions as I try to navigate the fallout of the UK’s latest budget announcement. As a small business owner with 25 years of experience, I’ve weathered my share of storms—from recessions to pandemics—but this time feels different.  This time, it feels like we’re headed straight into a concrete wall. Even if the economy grows by the predicted 1% (which, frankly, feels optimistic), my instinct tells me we’re starin

EVs: The future is now

The future of transport is electric. With plug-in vehicle registrations up by almost 80% in 2021, we are all waking up to the fact that our next car or van may be electric. Responding to this growing market, in 2019 facilities specialists the Future Group launched a new company, Future Fuel, to deliver charging solutions to the block management sector. Electric vehicle charging: how do we split the bill?

The EV revolution is unstoppable but some older charge points are already becoming obsolete. Jamie Willsdon from Future Fuel has the solution. In the new build sector developers of residential blocks, particularly in the build-to-rent market, have been installing electric vehicle (EV) charge points as standard for several years.  Early solutions specified and installed by developers in the last five years are now typically being overseen by property managers who are increasingly coming to us with their pr

Right to manage: are you compliant?

Since 2002, leaseholders have had the legal right to take responsibility for managing their block under the Right to Manage. They are free to engage the services of a property manager of their choice or to self-manage their development. So far so good, but as Urban Owners point out in their online guide to RTM, with control comes responsibility. Once the RTM company has been set up, the directors must take on a number of obligations on behalf of their fellow flat owners. These responsibilities include: -

Let there be (energy efficient) light!

The Reeds Development is a stunning residential scheme of 130 luxury apartments located close to Watford Junction Station.   THE BRIEF: Despite the very  high standard of the development, residents at The Reeds and their property managers had become increasingly concerned that the lighting had become outdated and now posed a potential risk to health and safety.
